At Perea's, the menu reads like a love letter to New Mexican food culture. Whether you’re craving a hearty breakfast or a satisfying lunch, the options are abundant and inviting. Their Half Order of the Famous Huevos Rancheros is a standout, featuring eggs perfectly cooked atop savory layers of tortillas smothered in vibrant chili sauces. For something with a more playful twist, the Pumpkin Pancakes—a seasonal favorite—offer a sweet, spiced indulgence that is both comforting and unique.
Fans of savory indulgences will find bliss in the Chorizo Omelette, bursting with flavorful, seasoned sausage that pairs beautifully with thick, handmade flour tortillas—each bite a testament to Perea’s commitment to quality and authenticity. The ever-popular Carne Adovada Plate and its accompanying rice and beans serve up tender, slow-cooked pork bathed in a rich red chile sauce, a dish praised repeatedly by locals for its deep, smoky warmth.
The atmosphere at Perea’s is refreshingly simple and unpretentious, with a minimalistic décor that lets the food shine as the true star. Customers frequently note a “mom and pop” vibe that brings a sense of Southern hospitality into this desert city—where the friendly, hardworking staff greet every guest like family. It's the kind of place where you can relax over a plate of Huevos Rancheros Christmas Style or savor a crunchy, satisfying Chimichanga, knowing that every dish is crafted with care and fresh ingredients.
One repeat visitor, Gloria Serafini, fondly calls Perea’s the place for the “absolute best chorizo and potato burrito with Green on the planet,” a glowing endorsement that captures the restaurant’s magnetic charm and culinary mastery. The thick, hand-pressed tortillas carry the hearty fillings with authenticity and character, a detail not lost on discerning patrons like Luis Hernandez who appreciate the unmistakable freshness of made-from-scratch flour tortillas. Even among takeout devotees, the care in portions and flavor shines through, as noted in positive experiences with the restaurant’s chicharrone and bean burritos.
In every visit to Perea’s, you not only enjoy a plate of deeply satisfying New Mexican classics but also experience a piece of Albuquerque’s culinary soul. Whether it’s a comforting breakfast, a savory lunch, or a casual meal that feels remarkably like home, Perea's New Mexican Restaurant invites you to savor true local flavors made with heart and tradition. It’s a place where the food nourishes the body and the warmth of genuine hospitality feeds the spirit.
Great local place with a mom and pop vibe. Simple decore & savory new Mexican food . Felt like a slice of southern hospitality in the dessert. Come enjoy a minimalist vibe and delicious good food from hard working polite people.
I really have only been here twice and both have been for takeout burritos. The first time I got the chicharrone and bean burrito everything was delicious and wonderful...especially it was a fantastic size for the price. This most recent time that I ordered the same burrito, it was almost half the size and the chicharrone was not as fresh tasting. They are still an amazing restaurant to visit and I hope that this review helps them to do a little bit more quality control.
Moved from Alb over 27 years ago but always come back to Perea’s for the absolute best chorizo and potato burrito with Green on the planet!! Bar none! You must try it at least once! Small restaurant but definitely worth the wait. Also tried the carne adovada with red which was also very tasty. But the burrito…WOW! So glad to come visit family regularly just to visit Perea’s too.
Perea's is a family run restaurant serving traditional New Mexican food in Albuquerque for decades. The staff treat you like part of their family. They are friendly and attentive. The food is made with fresh quality ingredients.
Little place, no parking on the front but enough on the back and side. Flour tortillas are thick and taste good, that way you know these are made on site and not store-bought, I got a Christmas lunch ground beef burrito, green Chile felt like medium hot, it was good enough for me to go back and try something else. The cost are average on new mexican food,
Always great place to eat. Was packed and people waiting out the door but was delicious and worth the wait. We had Frontier the day before and this was 1000000 times better, no comparison. Frontier was overhyped and bland and stale.
Perea’s was AMAZING. The staff was so kind - as someone who’s never been to New Mexico, our server gave great recommendations of some of the classics we needed to try. The food was incredibly flavorful and thoughtful across the board - easily the best sopas my friend and I have ever had. Portions were generous and the space is very warm and cozy. We would never stop coming here if we lived more close by!
